Welcome to Travel & Tourism 

The Travel and Tourism industry is one of the fastest and most dynamic industries in the world. It provides over 250 million jobs worldwide and is continuing to grow. This course provides opportunities for students to work in Dubai as cabin crew or manage a chain of luxury hotels just to name a few.

 

What knowledge and skills will students develop at KS5? 

BTEC Level 2 Award in Travel & Tourism

This is a one year qualification designed to give students the skills to work in the travel and tourism industry. Students will gain those skills by successfully completing four different units. This qualification will also enable students to progress to further studies including the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate, various apprenticeships and higher education. Students will study the following units:

The UK Travel and Tourism Sector (exam unit)

UK Travel and Tourism Destinations (coursework)

The Travel and Tourism Customer Experience (coursework)

International Travel and Tourism Destinations (coursework)

BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate

This is a two year qualification designed to give students the skills to work in the travel and tourism industry. Students will gain those skills by successfully completing four different units. The World of Travel and Tourism (exam unit)

Global Destinations (controlled assessment)

Enrichment and extra-curricular activities 

Through a variety of trips and guest speakers, students will learn about the skills required to work in this industry whilst gaining insight and understanding of this varied and interesting sector.

In previous years students have visited attractions such The Shard, ZSL London Zoo, Brighton, Birmingham Christmas Markets, The Stafford Hotel, River Thames cruise trip, Winter Wonderland, Wimbledon Tennis.

Students have also had the opportunity to interact with guest speakers including cabin crew from Easyjet.

How can you help your child? 

How can students extend their thinking and challenge themselves in this subject? 

Students extend their thinking in this subject by being reflective learners. They have ample opportunities to practice exam questions and to respond to feedback.

They are challenged by exploring different perspectives, reading about current affairs, analysing case studies and by applying their learning to the real world.

What are the career opportunities for students that study this subject? 

University, apprenticeships, hotel manager, cabin crew, employment in hospitality, holiday representative, business or travel agent.
