Key Stage 4 Options
Re: Year 8 Curriculum and KS4 options process
In order to boost preparations for the new and reformed GCSEs, we had extended GCSE study to commence in Year 9 over the last few years. This meant that students were asked to select their GCSE options in Year 8.
We have been in a consultation process during the past term to review our curriculum. It is evident from the big changes that we have made to our Key Stage 3 curriculum that our students are making stronger progress. As they are making such positive progress and to ensure access to a broader curriculum, we have taken the decision to return to a three year Key Stage 3. This means that students will not be asked to make their GCSE option choices in Year 8 but will, once again, be making these choice in Year 9.
All other scheduled Year 8 examinations, parent meetings and workshops will continue as planned, as per the website calendar. Once students commence Year 9 they will be guided through the Key Stage 4 options process and we will keep you fully informed during this time.
Parents' Evening for Year 8 will take place on Thursday 6th February and will offer an opportunity to discuss your child's progress and any other matters with your child's tutor or Head of Year.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Mr Whitfield, Head of Key Stage 3, or Ms Gray, Deputy Headteacher, Curriculum & Standards.
Thank you for your support.
